Day 1 ~ Depart for Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico on the Sea of Cortez. A stop is made in Gila Bend before the border crossing. Our port of entry is Sonoyta, south of Gila Bend. Arrive at the hotel for a late lunch, or pack a lunch to eat on the way. In Puerto Penasco pick up snacks and beverages to “stock” your room at Super Ley’s. Ice is sold at the hotel.

Terrific restaurants, colorful curio shops and long stretches of sandy beach are waiting to be explored. Accommodations are at the Playa Bonita Resort, a beachfront property with a large patio to enjoy the view.  No plans are made for the evening. Bring your swim suit and take a dip in the beachfront pool and hot tub. The hotel restaurant prepares terrific shrimp dishes and margaritas.

Day 2 ~ This morning you can board the bus for a half day of sightseeing.  Visit Julios for shell art and the downtown Malacon with vendors selling t-shirts, jewelry, ceramics and ironwood. There are a variety of restaurants to try, but do sample a shrimp taco. Stops subject to change due to shop hours of operation.

Not interested in sightseeing? That’s OK, the hotel is the perfect place to kick back and relax and do your own thing.

Fishing ($65 – $80 per person), golfing (Las Palomas $75, 18 holes), rental of an ATV or golf cart ($20 – $40 per hour), an ultralight flight, Bird Island nature cruise or a sunset cruise ($$30 per person), horseback riding ($25): all can be arranged upon arrival at the hotel.

Tonight enjoy the optional no-host group dinner at Mare Blu Ristorante.

Day 3 ~ This morning “Mr Fish” visits the hotel. Load up your cooler with luscious fresh shrimp, clam, scallops or local chicken fish to share with friends back home. The bus departs 9:30 – 10:00 am. A visit to Organ Pipe National Monument is made during the return trip, time permitting. Return to the USA via Lukeville.

This is a leisurely activity level tour. Limited walking, walking is at your own pace, and leisurely free time is included.  Few stairs are involved and the hotel has an elevator. Sidewalks and streets in Puerto Penasco may be uneven.

7:30  AM depart the Foothills.

Please note: The pool at the Playa Bonita is not heated. All rooms and the restaurant are non-smoking. Smoking is allowed on the balconies and outdoors.

Bring a cooler to ice beverages in your room and to transport home your fish and shrimp purchases, your passport and US currency in small denominations. Most established restaurants and Super Ley accept credit cards. You may wish to pack a beach towel. Do NOT bring fresh fruit — it will be confiscated at the border.

Rooms have coffee makers, hair dryers. Bottled water, shampoo and soap are provided.
