Puerto Penasco New Years Celebration ~ 4 Days @ Playa Bonita

Rocky Point, Mexico

playa bonitaDay 1 – Happy New Years Holiday! Depart for Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico on the Sea of Cortez. We make a brief stop in Gila Bend. Our port of entry is Sonoyta, south of Gila Bend. Crossing the border, we shift into Mexican time, very relaxed, so unwind and enjoy your vacation. Arrive at the hotel for a late lunch, or pack a lunch to eat on the way.

In Puerto Penasco, we stop at Super Leys so you can purchase snacks and beverages to “stock” your room. This store accepts credit cards.

Terrific restaurants, colorful curio shops and long stretches of sandy beach are waiting to be explored. Accommodations are at the Playa Bonita Resort, a beachfront property with a large patio to enjoy the view. No plans are made for the evening. Bring your swim suit and take a dip in the beachfront pool and hot tub. Stroll the beautiful sandy beach in front of the hotel. Watch the magnificent sunset from the west-facing hotel patio. The hotel restaurant prepares terrific shrimp dishes and margaritas.

Day 2 – This morning board the bus for a day of sightseeing. See Julio’s shell art; shop in the Cholla Mall and the downtown Malacon with vendors selling t-shirts, jewelry, ceramics and ironwood. There are a variety of restaurants to try for lunch, but do sample a shrimp taco. Stops subject to change due to shop hours of operation and scheduling.

Not interested in sightseeing? That’s OK, the hotel is the perfect place to kick back and relax and do your own thing. Or explore the area by participating in an activity such as: fishing ($65 – $80 pp), golfing (18 holes at Las Palamos $75), horseback riding ($25), rental of an ATV or golf cart ($20 – $40 per hour), sunset cruise ($25 – $30 pp). All can be arranged upon arrival at the hotel. Your escort and driver will be happy to provide more details. Taxis are inexpensive @ about $2 per person per trip.

Reserve prior to departure, very limited food available at the hotel, approximate cost $37.

Day 4 – Load up your cooler with luscious shrimp, clams or local chicken fish to take home and share with friends. The bus departs 9:30 – 10:00 am. A visit to Organ Pipe National Monument is made during the return trip, time permitting.

This is a leisurely activity level tour. Limited walking, walking is at your own pace, and leisurely free time is included.  Few stairs are involved and the hotel has an elevator.  Sidewalks and streets in Puerto Penasco may be uneven.
