Day 1 ~ After an early morning departure from Yuma, enjoy the scenic drive through the Imperial Valley and El Centro. From El Centro’s below sea level altitude, the route along Interstate 8 reaches over 6,000 feet above sea level in the Laguna Mountains. Enjoy unique rock formations in the Cleveland National Forest. From Alpine the motorcoach descends into the lush semi-tropical climate of San Diego.
Some of the country’s greatest attractions are found in San Diego. There is so much to see and do! The tour escort will assist you to personalize your visit to reflect your interests and energy level.
Your choices include:
San Diego Zoo – world renowned home of over 4,000 animals, including giant pandas, $52 adults (12+).
Seaworld – animal theme park, oceanarium, and marine mammal park, $73 adults (on line in advance).
USS Midway Aircraft Carrier & Museum – go to sea without leaving port aboard this re-purposed aircraft carrier, $17 (62+), $10 retired military.
Seaport Village – more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries on the waterfront.
Old Town Trolley Tour – well-informed guides provide an excellent first glance at the city — step off to explore sites that interest you, reboard a later trolley, $39 adults.
The Beach Trolley will shuttle you to Mt. Soledad, La Jolla, and Mission Beach from Old Town. Grab your beach towels, slather on the sunscreen, and get out to explore some of the finest beaches in the world. $32 adults
Maritime Museum and Star of India – flotilla of classic ships featuring the full-rigged merchant vessel Star of India (1863), the world’s oldest ship that still goes to sea, $13 SR 62+ & military.
Balboa Park – magnificent 1,200-acre city park with breathtakingly ornate Spanish-style buildings. Home to the zoo, 14 museums, a pipe organ pavilion, botanical gardens, an antique carousel and a miniature-scale train. Museum admissions vary in price. Purchase a $4 self-guided audio tour of the park, or take a free ranger-led tour of historical and botanical treasures at 11:00am every Tuesday.
Narrated Harbor Cruise – a 1 or 2 hour professionally narrated tour of San Diego Bay. They depart almost hourly throughout the day. Admissions $23 (1 hr) or $28 (2 hr) seniors 55+ & military.
The “Seal Tour” is an amphibious craft, both tour bus and boat, that journeys through San Diego by land and sea. $39 adults.
Whale Watching – 3.5 hour excursion with Hornblower Cruises. See gray whales on their annual migration. Get a close-up look and learn from the on board naturalists, $41 adults.
The motorcoach takes you to the attraction of your choice. You purchase your admission directly at the attraction. Your escort will advise you of your pick-up time. The Tour West bus will pick you up, late afternoon.
Later, check in to The Ramada Conference Center, for overnight lodging. The hotel has an outdoor pool and spa. Dine (no host) on site at Proud Mary’s Southern Bar and Grill.
Day 2 ~ Make another choice from the list above. The Tour West bus will take you to the attraction you select. Depart America’s Finest City around 4pm, with a no-host dinner stop along the way.
This is a leisurely activity level tour. You are able to select attractions that are suitable for your stamina and mobility. Many are ADA accessible. The hotel is elevator equipped.
